DESCRIPTION:If you want to know how to get publicity for your business at no   or low cost\, then this is the session for you. Join other small  business owners to learn how to increase brand awareness to  take your business to the next level. A communication expert will share strategies and tools to put the power of publicity to work for your enterprise.    What you will cover: \n\nThe role of publicity and how it can help your business.\nDo-it-yourself PR: How to pitch to the media.\nDeveloping your list of media contacts.\nMedia targets: Shooting for the moon\, attainable reaches and low-hanging fruit.\nCreating the story vs. getting the story in the media.\nUsing social media as a powerful media platform.\nEnabling publicity through word-of-mouth marketing.\nMeasuring the impact of your PR efforts\n\nREGISTER NOW\n  \nYour leader is Lea Byrd:\nLea Byrd is a highly regarded publicist who has led and participated in successful media campaigns in film\, music\, fashion\, sports\, lifestyle and politics. In 2000\, Lea launched her own consultancy with media projects including John Singleton’s Baby Boy\, the late August Wilson’s play King Hedley II\, and the film G by independent film producer Andrew Lauren.  Her clientele includes luxury brands such as POLISH Nail Emporium and Pieces\, a fashion boutique co-owned by Latisha and Colin Daring. \nAs for politics\, Lea served as Press Secretary for Assemblyman Roger Green in Brooklyn’s 57th District.  She has launched media campaigns for Jini Thornton\, Envision Business Management Group\, entertainer David Banner’s 2014 Gatorade World Cup commercial\, Black&Sexy.TV (an online network studio)\, Nefertite Nguvu’s film entitled In The Morning\, and Broadway diva N’Kenge of Motown: The Musical. \nLea also worked closely with C3S NYC Coalition of Community Charter Schools\, building brand awareness and media relations for the organization. \nLea consistently partners with April Silver\, President and Founder of Akila Worksongs\, Inc.\, on various projects. These have included the Brooklyn Museum’s exhibition: The Rise of Sneaker Culture\, the 44th Annual International African Art Festival\, Craig Harris’ God’s Trombones\, a musical theatre production at Mt. Olive Baptist Church\, and Columbia University’s Institute for Research in African American Studies Black Girl Movement Conference (April 2016).  She and April are currently collaborating on marketing and communications for the 15th National Black Writers Conference to be presented this fall by the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College\, CUNY.
