Michelle Beauty Salon I & II: A Success Story

Michelle Beauty Salon I is a vibrant and growing salon that employs a talented team of beauticians, offering a wide range of hair and beauty services. In June 2024, Michelle reached out to the Women’s Venture Fund (WVF) for business advice and funding support. Her vision was clear, she wanted to expand the salon and give it a fresh, modern look. At the time, she rented booth spaces to three licensed beauticians but knew that upgrading the salon’s equipment was critical to improving services and elevating the overall client experience.

With the support of WVF, Michelle secured a small loan that enabled her to purchase new hair dryers and refresh her salon’s appearance. This investment completely transformed the salon’s atmosphere, attracting new clients and creating more opportunities for growth. Soon after, she expanded her team by bringing on two additional licensed beauticians, increasing her staff to five employees. Beyond financial assistance, WVF provided Michelle with mentorship and resources that positioned her for stronger borrowing opportunities in the future.

WVF’s support extended beyond funding. Michelle became an active participant in WVF’s monthly online webinars, which provided practical business knowledge and strategies. Through these sessions, she was introduced to local banks and learned how to access financial products not directly offered by WVF. In 2025, she took an important step forward by opening a merchant account, enabling her salon to accept credit card payments for the first time. WVF also guided her on how to implement effective organic marketing strategies, helping her strengthen her social media presence. With these new tools in hand, Michelle plans to build a professional website to further grow her client base while showcasing her services.

Michelle’s entrepreneurial journey didn’t stop there. In 2025, she opened Michelle Beauty Salon II in the Bronx. This expansion allowed her to rent out additional booth spaces while also supporting other women entrepreneurs. In particular, she partnered with WVF client Glady Garcia, owner of Pink Beauty Nail Salon, by leasing her the basement of the new location. Together, they are creating a full-service beauty destination for the Bronx community, an inspiring example of collaboration and community impact.

Thanks to WVF’s funding, mentorship, and ongoing guidance, Michelle has been able to strengthen her brand, expand her business, and create opportunities for other women entrepreneurs. Her story is a powerful reminder of how access to resources, education, and support can help small businesses not only survive, but truly win in business.
